Description

Art Nouveau Secessionist Tubelined Minton Tile Leon Solon/John Wadsworth C1901

This is an astonishing tube-lined tile with a great secessionist design by the designer Leon Solon/John Wadsworth and manufactured by Minton around 1900. One of the best and most beautiful tiles I've found in a while.

There are very few examples of this tile.

It is in near-perfect condition despite its age only with light surface marks present.

It measures 6" x 6" (15.4cm x 15.4cm) square.

Solon was artistic director of Mintons between 1900 and 1909, and made an important contribution to the development of Art Nouveau in the Minton ceramic collections. In 1901, he was joined by John William Wadsworth (1879–1955) and both incorporated motifs borrowed from the Viennese secessionist movement.
