Description
Arts & Crafts Minton Tile Spirits of the Flowers Convolvulus J Moyr Smith C1875
This is a gorgeous block-printed tile depicting a female spirit standing inside bindweeds (convolvulus cneorum scientific name), it comes from the "Spirits of the Flowers" series and is titled "Convolvulus" designed by J Moyr Smith for Mintons China Works around 1875.
The series consists of 12 block printed tiles of flowers with female spirits in different colourways. Either designed by J Moyr Smith or C O Murray for Mintons China Works circa 1875.
The colour for this one in particular is very rare to find as I was not able to find another example like this.
It is in good condition for its age, with chips around the edges and surface marks.
It has something that looks like black paint on the back.
It measures 6" x 6" square.
The tile comes from the Roger Hensman Tile Collection, and has the number A.144. If you want to know more about this tile you can contact TACS (Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society), give them the reference number, and they can offer more information about it.
