Arts & Crafts Tile Dutch Royal Tichelaar Makkum Julfa Tile C1920
• Style: Arts & Crafts• Technique: Transfer-printed• Manufacturer: Unknown• Dimensions: 6″ x 6″• Date: C1920
The tile is part of my collection, and there are four available.
The tile was made in Holland and decorated by Armenian potters who fled to the Netherlands to escape the pogroms raging in their native lands. Martin van Straaten & Co imported it into England and sold it to a wealthy English elite with a taste for Arts & Crafts furnishings in the fashionable Orientalist style.
It is in good condition, with large chips around the edges and surface marks.
This is a rare tile to find and will look fantastic framed.
It measures 6" x 6" square and 1.5cm in thickness.
