Antique Snuff Box Hunting Scene Wooden Relief Work 1800s
Check out this lovely 19th-century wooden snuff box! It features a charming 3-dimensional pressed design with a hunting scene that shows two hunters (one with a rifle), two hunting dogs, and a deer on the lid. This delightful piece dates back to around 1875-1900.
The sides showcase a subtle vertical fine-line pattern, while the lid impressively depicts a detailed hunting scene with a forest backdrop.
Two small arms pivot on tiny nails connect the lid to the base, allowing it to gracefully curve outward at the front and create a little lip for easy opening. A couple of small chips in the veneer at the back corner hinges are hardly noticeable. A tan polish could help these blend in, but I've decided to leave it in its original, untouched condition.
Inside, a thick L-shaped piece of wood at the top ensures that your treasures stay secure. The lid and base are marked with the number "65," hinting at their limited production status.
This snuff box is not only a delightful piece of folk art but is also in excellent condition for its age. While these boxes often come with various scenes and themes, the hunting motif on this one is particularly unique and desirable.
Perfect as a tabletop display, this lid doesn’t fit tightly like a travelling snuff box, making it ideal for showcasing keepsakes, rings, jewellery, or even as a quirky paperweight or desk accessory. It's a fantastic conversation starter and would make a wonderful gift for anyone who loves hunting, dogs, or vintage collectables!
