Antique Solid Silver Propelling Pencil by Sampson Mordan & Co c1880
This is an antique solid silver pencil made by Samson Mordan & Co. around 1880.
Usually, pencils from this era are only sometimes marked; this is not, but it is acid-tested for silver.
The pencil is hexagonal and decorated with beautiful hand-cut foil patterns,
It has a simple raised stepped band at the bottom and a detachable screw taper end with foliate decoration, and a seal intaglio at the end with the Gothic letter B.
The pencil has a central slide strip in the middle that extends and retracts the tip.
Maker: S. Mordan & Co. Markers
Hallmarks: No hallmarked but tested for silver.
It measures about 9.1cm closed x 11.5cm fully open.
Total Weight: 14.5 grams
It is in good condition for its age, with visible signs of age and usage (with small visible dents and scratches).
It will need a good cleaning.
