Description
Chinese Porcelain Vase Birds & Flowers Design
A Chinese porcelain vase of baluster form, decorated with bird and floral motifs, bearing an underglaze iron-red Kangxi four-character mark to the base.
- Origin: China
- Period: Early 20th Century
- Mark: “Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi” (apocryphal)
- Material: Porcelain
- Height: Approx. 14 cm
- Diameter: Approx. 7.4 cm
The vase is of baluster form with a flared rim and a gently tapering foot. The body is decorated with a perched yellow bird amongst flowering branches and bamboo, painted in famille-rose enamels against a white ground.
The neck features a stylised border in black enamel with pendant drop detail, while the foot rim carries a simple linear band.
The base bears a red square seal mark reading “Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi” (“Made during the Kangxi period of the Great Qing”). The mark is apocryphal, a traditional tribute mark commonly used on later decorative wares rather than indicating 17th century manufacture.
Decoration and mark style suggest early 20th-century production.
Condition
Good antique condition.
General light surface wear consistent with age. Minor rubbing to the enamels in places. No visible cracks, chips or major restoration observed. The base shows light wear to the foot rim.
