German Hanau Silver Jester Head Finial Attributed Neresheimer C1900
A figural silver finial modelled as a jester’s head with an exaggerated expression, high collar and long pointed cap ending in a bell. The N is consistent with marks used by Ludwig Neresheimer & Co. The crowned R and small grid or basket-pattern punches are Hanau pseudo-marks intended to resemble earlier European hallmarks. They do not indicate a silver standard or assay date.
The precise original application of the finial is unknown. A threaded steel fitting and brass nut remain attached underneath. There are surface scratches, tarnishing, small knocks and general wear. Residue and oxidation are present within the open underside.
