Japanese Copper Alloy Vesta Case Samurai Bird Meiji Period C1900

Origin: Japan
Period: Meiji period, circa 1880–1900

Decoration: Raised samurai and bird scenes with floral borders
Features: Ribbed match striker to the base
Measurements: Approx. 6.5cm long x 4.2cm wide

The case is decorated to both sides in relief. One side depicts a samurai in armour with drawn swords. The reverse shows a long-tailed bird among flowering branches. The sides continue the floral decoration.

There is general surface wear, oxidation and rubbing to the finish, with age-related marks throughout. The striker shows wear. Please study the photographs carefully for the full condition.
