This is a superb and high-quality antique sterling silver vesta case / matchbox holder, distinguished by its clean, plain design and substantial feel, dating to the early 20th century.
The case is engraved with the initials “G.V.W.H.”, almost certainly those of the original owner. It was made by Sampson Mordan & Co. and retailed by Dunhill, combining two of the most respected names associated with fine British silver and luxury accessories. The piece also carries registered design number 642237, dating the design to 1915.
