Sterling Silver Vesta Case Match Holder John Henry Wynn Birmingham 1923
An antique sterling silver vesta case of rectangular form with hinged lid and side suspension ring. The front and reverse are finely engraved with scrolling foliate decoration and a vacant circular cartouche to the centre.
Hallmarked for Birmingham 1923 with maker’s mark J.H.W for John Henry Wynn.

The case is of slightly cushion-shaped rectangular form with bevelled edges and a hinged top opening. Both panels are decorated with detailed bright-cut style foliate scroll engraving within a rectangular border. The front features a plain circular cartouche, unengraved.
A suspension ring is fitted to the side for attachment to a watch chain. The base incorporates the original ribbed striker.
The interior retains natural age patina consistent with use. The hinge operates correctly and the lid closes securely.
Fully hallmarked to the inner lip with maker’s mark J.H.W, anchor for Birmingham, lion passant for sterling silver, and date letter for 1923.
Condition
Good antique condition.
Clear hallmarks. Hinge in good working order. Minor surface wear and light scratches consistent with age and handling. Interior shows expected darkening from historic match storage. No splits or repairs observed.
