Sterling Silver Vesta Case Match Holder Smith & Bartlam Chester 1910
An antique sterling silver vesta case of rectangular form with hinged lid and side suspension ring. The case is decorated with engraved scrolling foliate detail and a central shield-shaped cartouche to the front.
Hallmarked for Chester 1910 with maker’s mark S & B for Smith & Bartlam.

The case is of slightly cushion-shaped rectangular form with bevelled edges and a hinged lid. The front is engraved with flowing foliate scrollwork surrounding a vacant shield-shaped cartouche. The reverse carries matching engraved decoration without cartouche.
A suspension ring is fitted to the side for attachment to a watch chain or fob. The base retains its original ribbed striker.
The interior shows natural darkening consistent with historic use. The hinge functions correctly and the lid closes securely.
Hallmarks are struck to the inner lip and include S & B (Smith & Bartlam), lion passant for sterling silver, Chester town mark, and date letter for 1910.
Condition
Good antique condition.
Clear and legible hallmarks. Hinge in sound working order. Light surface wear and fine scratches consistent with age and handling. Interior patina from use. No splits or visible repairs observed.
