Victorian Carved Egg Form Sewing Powder Sprinkler C1900

• Victorian carved cow bone sewing powder sprinkler.
• Approximate date: c.1880–1900.
• Egg-shaped screw-opening body.
• Pierced sprinkler top.
• Turned handle with decorative fluted collar.
• Double green painted band decoration.
• Measures approx. 5.5cm long.

This carved bone sewing accessory was used to dispense fine powder, such as French chalk or talc, onto thread while sewing or embroidering. The powder helped reduce friction, strengthened the thread during stitching, and made it easier to pass through fabric. The pierced screw-top allowed the powder to be sprinkled in small quantities as required.

It is in good antique condition with age-related wear, including light surface marks and minor wear to the painted decoration. The screw thread operates correctly, and the two sections fit together securely. The interior is clean and empty.
