- Material: XRF Tested 9ct Gold
- Maker: Unmarked
- Period: Victorian/early 20th century
- Measurements: approx. 11.3cm long closed, 13.7cm fully opened
- Total Weight: 16 grams
An antique combination propelling pencil and dip pen, crafted in 9ct gold and finished with extensive foliate chasing across the entire body.
The piece features a sliding outer sleeve which reveals the internal pencil mechanism. The lower section unscrews to expose a dip pen nib, forming a multi-function writing instrument typical of the Victorian period.
The terminal is fitted with a carved seal top, set with a bloodstone-style panel engraved with a monogram. The decoration is consistent throughout, with crisp detailing and good depth to the chasing.
Unmarked, with a small “M” stamp noted to the internal section. The gold has been tested as 9ct gold.
Condition
In good condition for its age, with visible signs of age and usage.
It will require a new lead as there is no lead present. The nib shows age-related wear and darkening.
A well-executed example of a Victorian combination writing instrument, combining both pencil and dip pen functions in a single piece.
Unmarked examples of this quality are typically encountered without full attribution. The emphasis here is on construction, decoration, and functionality.
