Scarce Antique Sterling Silver Propelling Pencil & Dip Pen Perry & Co Ltd
A highly distinctive antique sterling silver propelling pencil by Perry & Co Ltd, notable for its richly engraved body and boldly modelled decorative terminal with suspension ring.
The pencil is clearly marked with the maker’s name and “Sterling Silver”, a practice seen on certain specialist and export-oriented silver items, despite the absence of standard assay hallmarks.

This propelling pencil features a finely engraved cylindrical body with repeating foliate and geometric motifs, bordered by crisp zig-zag and line detailing. The decoration is well cut and evenly executed, giving the surface real depth and character.
The terminal is particularly striking, featuring bold scrolling and floral relief and a solid suspension ring, suggesting it was intended for a chatelaine or watch chain. The propelling mechanism extends and retracts smoothly, and the pencil remains well balanced in the hand.
