Victorian Propelling Pencil with Brown Stone Top Engraved C1900

A late Victorian propelling pencil, designed for use on a chatelaine.

The piece is formed with a faceted barrel, engraved with foliate motifs and retaining traces of gilt decoration within the recesses. It operates via a screw mechanism which advances the internal lead.

The terminal is fitted with a rounded brown stone insert, used as a decorative finial. A small side ring is present for suspension or attachment.

Condition
General wear consistent with age.
Surface wear and rubbing to the gilt decoration.
Light marks and minor tarnishing throughout.
Mechanism present and extends, though not tested for full working order.

The pencil is unmarked, which was normal for the era, but it has been tested and confirmed to be silver.
The stone insert is decorative and not intended for sealing use.
