A late 19th-century sterling silver card case with dense engraved decoration throughout. The exterior features scrolling foliate work with circular floral panels, centred by a cartouche engraved with a sailing ship motif.

The case opens to a fitted interior with concertina compartments in brown fabric, designed to hold calling cards. The hinged form is compact and well-balanced, with a side thumbpiece for opening.

The engraving is crisp and consistent on both sides, showing good-quality workmanship typical of Hilliard & Thomason production. The original fitted presentation case with blue silk lining is included.

Condition
Good overall condition for its age. Light surface wear and minor marks consistent with use. Engraving remains sharp. Interior compartments intact with light wear to fabric. Hinges and the opening mechanism function correctly.

Presentation case shows wear to exterior and interior lining commensurate with age.
