Rare Victorian Brass Combination Vesta Case Match Holder & Whistle

This is a combination of a Victorian Brass Vesta Case and Whistle.
Vesta boxes also referred to as vesta boxes, matchboxes, and pocket safes, were used to keep vesta (short matches) dry and ready to ignite when struck.

They were first manufactured in the 1830s and became popular between 1890 and 1920 when waistcoats were in fashion.

Most vest boxes had a striker surface at the bottom, allowing the owner to strike the matches.

The pea whistle, which we use today, was invented by Joseph Hudson in the 1880s.

Football referees and police forces first used it before becoming a standard item on the general market.

It measures approx. 6cm long x1.5cm x 1.3cm
