A SUPERB VICTORIAN 1850s QUALITY CAMPAIGN WRITING SLOPE SECRET DRAWERS
For sale is this large Victorian 1861 writing slope box.
These slopes are known as Military Campaign slopes, as they were often used in military conflicts of that period. This is a top-quality slope, as shown in the photos, a presentation piece.
The outside is in Lovely figured mahogany with a lovely grain throughout. It also has brass corner protectors, and there is an ornately not engraved brass tablet on the lid. It has a lock, but there is no key.
The inside is in lovely original condition and all complete; the skivers are the original with gold-tooled surround, and the centre crease is still good.
It comes with a red glass ink bottle.
As shown beneath the lower board it has two secret drawers these can only be accessed by slightly lifting the far right-hand side inkwell compartment side which then opens the secret sprung panel.
This quality slope is over 150 years old and has been well cared for over those many, many years !..
It is in super condition and makes a fabulous display item, too.
