Description

Japanese Brass Vesta Case Match Safe Holder Dragon Meiji Period

This is an antique brass matchcase safe holder from the Meiji period in Japan.
The case has a beautiful design featuring a high-relief three-crawled dragon that opens its mouth to reveal the matches inside.
This match safe is from around 1890-1910 and is a fantastic example of the high-quality craftsmanship expected from the Meiji period. The bottom has a ridge specifically designed for striking the matches, and the hinge is sturdy and snaps shut tightly.

It measures about 7.4cm x 3.5cm.
