Antique Sterling Silver Propelling Pencil by Henry Griffith & Sons Ltd 1901
This is an antique solid silver thruster pencil. The pencil has a hexagonal shape and is decorated with beautiful hand-cut, cut and shiny foil patterns on the outside. It also has a loose cartouche on the side, a simple raised stepped band at the bottom and a detachable screw taper end with foliate decoration and an enclosed amethyst gemstone inset seal at the end.
The pencil has a repoussette central slide strip in the middle that extends and retracts the pencil tip. It also has a twist-action tip that extends and retracts the pencil mechanism. Both mechanisms work great.
The pencil comes complete with a pencil lead already on the tip. The body of the pencil is completely hallmarked on the side. It is a wonderful collector's item.
