This is an antique Russian cigarette box made of burl wood, known for its seamless hinge. It was a limited edition style designed by the renowned jeweller Peter Carl Fabergé, best known for his famous Fabergé eggs.
This box was made specifically for the upper class and gifted to someone with refined taste and sensibilities.
The lid is elegantly curved, and the dovetail hinge and edges fit together so perfectly that the case appears seamless when closed. The entire surface of the case, inside and out, features the beautiful burl wood grain.
This masterpiece is over 100 years old and clearly crafted by a master woodworker, with hidden wire pins securely holding the hinge. The soft, rounded edges and subtle yet functional design elements make it a pleasure to use when held.
It measures approx. 11cm x 8cm x 1.5cm.
